Chopsticks, Bulldozers and Newcastle Brown

on BBC Two England

A year ago the Japanese company Komatsu moved into an empty factory just south of Newcastle. Their aim was to bring the Japanese work ethic to Britain. This series of three programmes looks at the challenges facing British and Japanese workers and management in the first difficult year of the factory.
3: Newcastle Brown
The British manager has been employed by the Japanese to bring morning exercises, uniforms and equal status to Newcastle. The workers he has to convince are Geordies, with a culture quite alien to that of Tokyo head office.
Over the year very British answers are tried to 'the Japanese way'. Reporter
