Twenty-five years ago Anthony Powell started work on what has proved the largest literary enterprise by an English writer since the war. The 12th and final volume in his novel sequence A Dance to the Music of Time is published today.
He talks to JULIAN JEBB about this huge comic panorama of English life which stretches from before the First World War to the early 70s and is populated by more than 300 characters, the most famous of all being Kenneth Widmerpool.
