Ryder Cup Golf

on BBC Two England

USA v Europe
Live coverage from Kiawah Island of this afternoon's fourball matches, involving eight players from each team. Conceived in 1927 as a challenge between Britain and America, the Ryder Cup became a Europe v America contest in 1979 after a string of defeats for the British team, punctuated by only one victory in 1957. In 1985, Europe claimed their first success at the Belfry, in front of a rapturous home crowd. In 1987, Tony Jacklin 's side became the first to beat the Americans on their own soil.
Will that triumph be repeated this year in South Carolina? The captain's strategy is all-important. Blending inexperienced players with experienced superstars is a delicate but crucial equation. Introduced by Steve Rider.
