Fifteen documentary films about life in Britain made week-by-week from September to Christmas last year.
4: Gamblers of the Vale
A few square miles of not always very good land along the Avon is one of the most intensively cultivated parts of Britain. The Vale of Evesham in Worcestershire, grows a greater variety of fruit and vegetables than anywhere in England and sends them all over the country. The growers are gamblers, using muck, luck, science and hard work to survive in the chancy world of horticulture. This film looks at some of them during the first week of October last year.
