4: The Duke of Beaufort,Master of the Horse
Master of the Horse is the third most important office of the Royal Household, after the Lord Steward and the Lord Chamberlain. The tenth Duke of Beaufort follows in a family tradition founded by the fourth Earl of Worcester, Master of the Horse to Queen Elizabeth I and King James I and ancestor of the Beaufort family. The Duke has held office for over 40 years, longer than any previous Master of the Horse. In his 77th year he is still very active, following his passion for hunting and hounds for five days a week in the season, but still finding time to fulfil testing ceremonial duties, particularly in Silver Jubilee Year.
