Saturday Cinema: Luis Bunuel's Robinson Crusoe

on BBC Two England

Shipwrecked on a tropical island Robinson Crusoe cheerfully adapts to his adventurous new life. As the years pass, however, he becomes increasingly eccentric. The discovery of a footprint in the sand, signalling perhaps the end of his solitude, fills him with rage and panic. Bunuel's compelling film is a masterful blend of adventure, poetry, humour and sentiment.
