Concluding the series in which Jeremy Clarkson propounds his personal views on the best stories from recent automotive history.
One of the greatest challenges in car design, the race to produce the perfect family car has thrown up a multitude of shapes and sizes. The Ford Focus, the original Renault Espace and Fiat's Multipla are among the cars Clarkson tests for key qualities such as price, fuel economy, speed, size, safety and spaciousness.
Clarkson passes comment in his usual uncompromising manner on modern drivers and their machines, offering short shrift to those who own off-roaders before admitting he has one himself. He suggests that of all the bizarre predictions that were made about how life would be in the 21st century, the only one that holds true is that our cars look "completely ridiculous".
