How Buildings Learn: Built for Change

on BBC Two England

The third in a six-part series in which Stewart Brand examines buildings around the world.

Many of today's architects choose to design buildings with the emphasis on appearance. There is, however, much to be said for buildings which eschew good looks for flexibility and durability. Tonight's programme looks at homes in America - including San Francisco's "painted ladies", the 17,000 Victorian buildings which have mutated according to their occupants' needs.
