Live coverage of the Uefa Cup first round, first leg tie as Liverpool return to European competition for the first time in three seasons to face top opposition in the form of Russia's Spartak Vladikavkaz. Liverpool, last year's Coca-Cola Cup winners, also faced Russian opposition on their last appearance in Europe. On that occasion they lost to Spartak Moscow. But Liverpool have an excellent record in this competition, lifting the trophy twice in the 1970s before going on to even greater success in the European Cup. Vladikavkaz, though, are the runaway leaders as the Russian league season draws to its climax. Liverpool will need to show their best form to secure the sort of result they need in advance of the second leg, which will take place back at Anfield in two weeks' time.
