Cathedral Calls: Wells
The 12th-century cathedral at Wells is famous for its massive "scissor arch", installed in 1338 to support the collapsing tower, and the 14th-century clockface, which still enthralls visitors today.
Presenter Janet Street-Porter explains why Wells is her favourite cathedral, relates how its initial purpose was to outshine the cathedral at nearby Bath, reveals the architectural devices used to attract worshippers, and sees how computer graphics can restore the West Front's spectacular gallery of sculpture to its original colours.

8.05 In the Footsteps of Alexander the Great: Son of God
Michael Wood retraces the movements of the legendary Greek conqueror across 20,000 miles and 16 countries in another chance to view this four-part Odyssey.
In 334 BC, the 21-year-old Alexander set out from Greece to invade Asia and overthrow the Persian Empire. Michael Wood follows the army's march through Turkey to the Lebanese city of Tyre, scene of Alexander's most desperate battle, and the Egyptian oasis of Siwa, where Alexander was proclaimed Pharoah and Son of God. But he also hears another side to the story in the Palestinian legend of Alexander the two-horned devil.
