Last June 90 yachtsmen set off from Plymouth for Newport, Rhode Island, including some of the fastest and most expensive multihulls in the world.
Thirteen entrants beat the solo Atlantic record, but many more dropped out. Grandstand covered the start, then the BBC newsroom in the south west kept watch as a former west country policeman took the lead.
