Voice of the Whip
For centuries, semi-nomadic Arabs, principally from the Kababish tribal group, have been bringing camels along the '40-day road' from central Sudan to the camel markets of Egypt.
Voice of the Whip follows one group as they make the arduous 800-mile trip across great stretches of desert, from grasslands and rivers to empty sand flats; from evading thieves and battling sandstorms to stopping for supplies and the joyous arrival at the Nile.
During the journey a conflict emerges between an apprentice trail boss and his mentor. The headstrong
Yousif leaves his companions and endangers his animals by pushing ahead in an attempt to complete the trail first. Photography NED JOHNSTON Film editor DAVID HOPE Directors
