A World About Us Special

on BBC Two England

David Attenberough introduces
The 1979 Expedition Film Competition and presentation of The Mick Burke Award with Lord Hunt from the Royal Geographical Society, London
... the first women's attempt on the 20,000-foot Himalayan peak of Bakhor Das
... the wildlife on the Atherton Tablelands of Australia
... Campa Indians in the remote jungle of Peru.
The teams, using Super 8mm equipment, were all inexperienced film-makers - among them students and teachers, a writer, a housewife, an artist and a salesman. Tonight, one of the six teams will win the Award presented by the BBC Natural History Unit and the Royal Geographical Society as a tribute to the cameraman Mick Burke , who lost his life during the first ascent of the south-west face of Mount Everest.
