CRIME AND PUNISHMENT Lawless Youth - Villains or Victims?

on BBC Two England

Does a crisis of morality lie at the heart of Britain's rising crime rate? The horrific killing of 2-year-old Jamie Bulger earlier this year generated both shock and outrage and caused widespread heartsearching. Tonight's special Public Eye debate is chaired byjeremy Paxman and comes from
Feltham Young Offenders' Institution.
The debate, which rounds off BBC2's Crime and Punishment season asks what can be done to persuade young people to respect the law. The audience includes offenders, victims, church leaders, police and social workers. They offer strongly contrasting views on how the escalating problem can be successfully tackled.
