Bernstein's comic opera, based on Voltaire's classic satire, directed by JONATHAN MILLER and JOHN WELLS , is performed in a new production by Scottish Opera.
Overture and Act I
Candide is in love with Cunegonde, daughter of the house in Westphalia where he was brought up. But then he is expelled from home, separated from his beloved fiancee and forced to witness a series of disasters.

John Wells gives a talk on the 18th-century background to Voltaire's ideas.
Act II
Accompanied by his servant Cacambo, Candide continues his quest for Cunegonde in South America.
He finally comes to accept the real world and is reunited with his love.
