40 Minutes: Emergency - Bloomsbury

on BBC Two England

A series of films about the way we live now
3. It is the country's busiest ambulance station. The shop-talk is of knifings, suicides ... and the babies that have been delivered.
For ex-nurse Tracie Norris and Richard Rogers , who used to work in a bank, the first week in emergency ambulance Bloomsbury 3 is like an assault-course. Seasoned instructor Don Parsons is on hand, but there is extra pressure on Tracie and Richard, fresh as they are from training-school. They have got new cardiac equipment which brings the London Ambulance Service into line with American-style paramedics.
Meanwhile, newly-qualified Elaine Bennett and Dave Webb battle with the mounting pressures of traffic chaos, the closing of hospital casualty departments - and the increasing threat of violence to ambulance crews, called out to emergencies where they never know what to expect.
