Messiaen at 80

on BBC Two England

Today the great French composer Olivier Messiaen is 80 years old.
BBC2 celebrates the occasion with a live relay from the Royal Festival Hall in the presence of the composer.
George Benjamin, the young English composer who was a pupil of this outstanding teacher, presents a portrait of Messiaen with the help of Paul Crossley, Alexander Goehr and Pierre Boulez, with music from the BBC Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra and from Messiaen himself.
