Moliere

on BBC Two England

Written and directed by ARIANE MNOUCHKINE
A major five-part series telling the story of one of history's great playwrights whose writings of 17th-century Paris life are memorable for their humour and perception.
4: Secure in the patronage of the King, Moliere produces one successful play after another, most of them written by himself. He takes on the appearance of a courtier and, becoming too autocratic, he alienates some members of the company. A major crisis arises when the Church and the court arraign him over the ' scandal' of Tartuffe.
