Music by Nigel Osborne Libretto by CRAIG RAINE based on BORIS PASTERNAK 'S novella, The Last Summer, and on his poem Spectorsky Original stage production by PETER SELLARS
Russia 1916: a young poet returns home in the dying days of the First World War, just before the outbreak of the Russian Revolution. He dreams of the last summer before the war, when as tutor to a bourgeois family, he is involved in two love affairs which become disturbingly tangled in the nightmare of history. This is the background to this world premiere production by Glyndebourne Touring Opera.
