The Great North Road with Lucinda Lambton
The Great North Road is the backbone of Britain, linking London to Edinburgh. Lucinda Lambton was brought up in Durham, within sight of it. 'I've charged up and down this road all my life,' she says, 'always with a zinging feeling of anticipation.'
Now she's off north again in search of the unexpected.
The delights she's discovered include a calico grotto in a London kitchen, a lost domain in Yorkshire, a richly-panelled hotel saloon with an unexpected past.... And then there are the Everly Brothers from Nashville, Tennessee. Lucinda met them on another journey north when she was just 17 ... Photography MARTIN PATMORE
