Abusing the Elderly
'The first time it was just a slap ... then I started hitting her harder to make her do what I wanted. Last Christmas she ended up in casualty - I couldn't help myself.' This testimony is typical of stories told by those carers driven to distraction by the pressures of looking after elderly relatives in their own home. But just how widespread is such abuse of elderly people? Public Eye assesses the evidence and reveals how the caring hand can turn to aggression.
