Hawick v West of Scotland Introduced by NIGEL STARMER-SMITH
In 1974 Hawick became the first-ever Scottish First Division Champions. They repeated this success last year and a win today will virtually guarantee the hat-trick. In three seasons they have only suffered two championship defeats and these were both by today's opponents, West of Scotland. Each club supplies a number of players for the national side, not least of these Gordon Brown and Sandy Carmichael from West, and the new centre, Alastair Cranston , playing alongside his club captain Jim Renwick , for Hawick.
