For the climax of last month's anniversary celebrations at the Barbican, the Centre's director Henry Wrong invited Sir Georg Solti to conduct the London Symphony Orchestra for the first time in nearly 20 years. The result was a triumph: 'Sir Georg galvanised the LSO into giving their excellent best.... the demonic urgency [in the Seventh Symphony finale] was offset by a noble lyricism in the allegretto.'
