Narrator Patrick Allen
Fred Hoyle has been one of the best-known names in British astronomy for the past quarter of a century. Just turned 60, he is deeply involved in problems of cosmology and astro-physics, in particular with fundamental theories of the origins and nature of the universe. He is also a man of many other interests - from the history of Stonehenge to the writing of science-fiction.
This programme examines his life, work and opinions, as seen by himself and by his family, friends and colleagues, including Sir Bernard Lovell, Professor William Fowler, Sir Hermann Bondi and Professor Graham Smith, Director of the Royal Greenwich Observatory at Herstmonceux.
It also includes extracts from three of his major S-F novels, featuring Tony Doyle, Jane Asher, Frederick Jaeger, Peter Copley, Geoffrey Whitehead
