on BBC Two England

A film in four acts starring Liv Ullmann
Erland Josephson Act 2
While her husband is away on a business trip, Jenny Isaksson is staying with her grandparents. A mysterious message summons her to her house where she finds one of her patients, drugged, and has a disturbing encounter with two intruders. Suddenly Jenny becomes aware of her frigidity, her insecurity and her isolation and the realisation is more than she can bear.
Ingmar Bergman 's own personal turmoil is reflected in this story of a well-adjusted, capable and disciplined person whose shockingly quick breakdown is followed by an agonising rebirth.
