Weather followed by Sweat of the Sun, Tears of the Moon
Third of an eight-part series Inca Cola
The Spaniards crushed the Inca empire and their descendants still control most of the wealth and power in Peru. Under the Incas, Peru was a land of plenty. Their descendants lead a precarious existence on impoverished small-holdings, or drift to city slums. With a third of the national budget going to the armed forces and another third on international debts, the generals get Exocets and the poor get nothing. Jack Pizzey investigates the Inca revival and interviews former president Belaunde Terry. Producer GEOFFREY BARNES (R)
