During the summer months in the years before the last war, the daughters of the very best families were driven to Buckingham Palace to be presented at Court. This presentation was the climax of a very special summer for these girls. They were debutantes, making their debut into fashionable society. It was all called 'Coming Out.' And after 1939 mothers never again presented their daughters at Court in the evening. Catherine Ormsby-Gore, Dinah Brand and Christian Grant were all driven to Buckingham Palace to be presented that summer before the war. And they remember the fun and formality of a first London Season.
