Former undisputed world heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson is set to be released soon from Indianapolis Correctional Facility after serving three years for rape.
As Tyson prepares to rejoin US society, here is another chance to see the documentary by Academy Award-winning Barbara Kopple, first shown in the Fine Cut series, tracing his meteoric rise and equally dramatic fall. The programme features rare footage covering the period from when pugilistic mentor and father-figure Cus D'Amato took the shy 15-year-old under his wing to when the 25-year-old was convicted and sentenced to six years in jail.
In the ring his destructive intent was unrivalled but this film shows how, unable to divorce the violence of combat from his personal life, he succumbed to the darker side of his nature and became prisoner.
