Opium -
A Deadly Harvest
For over 200 years opium has been the most lucrative and politically explosive crop cultivated in Asia. Colonial governments, the French Secret Service, the CIA have all been involved in distributing opium for their various strategic aims. For the hill tribes of the Golden Triangle in SE Asia, who grow the opium poppy, these liaisons have resulted in increasing blood-shed, poverty and anarchy. For the west, it has made possible the dramatic rise in heroin addiction. This film explores the relationship between the tribal opium growers and traders and the governments and drug traffickers of the west.
