Indian Journeys: Shiva's Matted Locks

on BBC Two England

The first of three programmes in which travel writer William Dalrymple travels across India to explore its spiritual past.

Dalrymple begins with a pilgrimage to find the source of the River Ganges - venerated as being a sacred river and the fount of Hindu worship. This journey takes him up into the slopes of the Himalayas, known to Hindus as "Shiva's matted locks".
