Trial by Interview
First of three nightly Horizon programmes
The worst ten minutes of my life.... You can list things like: 'It brings in good money.' That sounds so greedy.
Two sixth-formers face the ordeal of an interview which will win or lose them a place at medical school. In just 15 minutes, they have to convince a panel that they've got what it takes to make a good doctor. Each year, there are more than 2,000 applicants for the 100 places at St Mary's Hospital Medical School. One in five are chosen for interview, and it's not so much academic ability but personality that will be tested. But what is the right personality for a doctor - and can you detect it at 17 or 18?
