Introduced by Peter Scott.
The peaks of the Japanese Alps are covered in snow, but scalding geysers force their way through the earth's crust. Lower down the slopes grow many wild flowers familiar to us in Britain, and there are attractive animals, flying squirrels, bears and bear-cubs, and the pretty little yamane which is found only in Japan.
Esther Hoshino, the daughter of a Japanese naturalist, who helped to make the sound recordings in the programme, appears with Peter Scott.
