Political change is rippling through Barbados. Fighting breaks out in the city, and it is feared it will reach the village. The boys escape into town to find out what’s happening. Show more
The boys return, traumatised by what they’ve seen. The rioters arrive, surround the houses, and await their prey while the villagers watch from their windows, shaking with fear. Show more
Mr Slime promises the villagers that their fortunes will change. WWII takes its toll; the trees are felled, the train lines removed and military training begins. Show more
The villagers do not get the change they’d hoped for. The landlord sells the land from under their feet, and there is confrontation as many are forced to leave their homes. Show more
G comes to the painful realisation he will be seeing things for the last time as he transitions into the High School and finds himself stuck between two worlds that exclude him. Show more
For the first time G is taught the true significance of his race. He prepares to leave for Trinidad, anxious to discover His People, and begin anew. He says goodbye to the village. Show more
