The Mystery of Ben Muich Dhui
Production by Robin Richardson
This programme about the ' grey man ' who is supposed to sit on the cairn of Ben Muich Dhui , in the Cairngorms, was originally broadcast on October 18, 1938. It was written by Ewen Macgregor , whose latest broadcast script about the whirlpool of Corrievreckan was heard at the end of March, and produced by Robin Richardson of the BBC's music department in Scotland. This time the feature will be rather different.
The original script ran to thirty-six minutes, but it had to be compressed to take twenty minutes' programme time. Now it has been allotted half an hour and it is also being slightly rewritten.
The ' grey man' of the Cairngorms is the most famous of the spectral figures of the mountains of Scotland. Listeners will hear an account from Wendy Wood , authoress, of a meeting with him and also the recorded voice of Andrew Stewart , Scottish Programme Director, who is one of the few mountaineers to have heard the ghostly sound of his footfalls.
