To a Scot there is much amusement to be got out of the sight of a kilted Sassenach, obviously wearing his kilt for the first time, and getting his knees scratched by stumps of heather and whin bushes. 
It is not surprising that the Scottish programme-makers decided to have a little fun on such an auspicious date.
