Oxygen, as Professor A. D. Peacock will show this afternoon, is the breath of life. No matter where a plant or animal lives, whether in water, sand, mud, soil, or air, the rule is that it possesses apparatus for obtaining oxygen. For example, there are the stomata of plants and the skin, gills, and lungs of animals.
