The great game ot Guiding and Scouting began among children who were of normal health. A considerable time elapsed before it was realised that children who are handicapped by physical defects, such as blindness or deafness, might also play a part in the game. There are Brownie packs and Guide companies in schools for the blind ; Ranger companies for blind girls and women over sixteen years of age ; and Area Post Ranger Companies for blind girls living in their own homes. Companies and packs are formed in the schools for the deaf, and Ranger companies and clubs in institutions. It is found that Guiding broadens the outlook of these and others who are not normal, by giving them new interests and helping them to forget their handicap in life.
