introduced and sung by William J. Mseleku
Tonight's singer is a twenty-seven-year-old Zulu, born in a Natal village, who came to Manchester not many months ago to study music and social conditions in England. Mseleku's family has for generations possessed notable musical talent ; he started to play the organ at the age of six and had shown an interest in modern music even before then. In Natal he was trained as a teacher, but he has given up this work for music. In 1932 he formed a native choir which he trained and conducted to competitive success. He has written and published a number of songs about the natives of South Africa. The Zulu songs of tonight's programme are arranged by himself.
