Jose Hassan (soprano)
John Ferguson (tenor)
Paul Sweeney (fiddler)
John Cruickshank (piper)
This programme gives an interesting survey of traditional Irish melodies and modern compositions in the same vein. The earliest published specimens of Irish folk-music appeared in the ' Fitzwilliam Virginal Book', but it was not till near the end of the eighteenth century that Irish folk-music was collected in bulk by Edward Bunting. Thomas Moore 's famous ' Selection of Irish Melodies', with his own words to the airs, came out in ten parts between 1808 and 1934.
