James R. Mageean
At the age of eighteen Mageean joined the famous F. R. Benson Company with which he worked for seven years, playing many important parts and touring England, America, and Canada. With the advent of broadcasting in Northern Ireland in 1924, however, ' Jimmy ' Mageean took up microphone acting and has been a regular and frequent figure in Ulster radio drama ever since. He has also appeared in eight nims, notably Against </<e Ttde with Cathleen Nesbitt , and T/)<' Londonderry Air with Sara AUgood.
With Richard Hayward , Mageean founded the Belfast Repertory Theatre, for which he has produced and acted in many plays.
