Coventry Leslie James was born at St. Albans, where he received his early training on a church organ. In 1922 he joined a large cinema circuit, and while with them he opened a record number of cinema organs. He has composed many works of a light nature and also an oratorio, a musical setting of Bunyan's ' Pilgrim's Progress', which was performed for the first time in the City Hall, Sheffield.
