This is the first of a series of concerts presenting the music of Midland composers. Eric Coates was born at Hucknall, Notts, had his early training there, afterwards entering the Royal Academy of Music in London. For some years he was in the Queen's Hall Orchestra, becoming the leader of the violas. In latter years he has devoted himself almost entirely to composition.
