This is a work not primarily of archæological, but of imaginative conception. Consisting of six short movements, viz., Solemn Temple Dance; Processional; Dirge for a Hero; Song of Argive Helen; Temple Chant; Corybantes, each number is written in one of the distinctive Greek modes in the Lydian, II, Ionian, III, Phrygian, IV, Æolian, V, Dorian, VI, Mixolydian; and the whole suite is designed to evoke the atmosphere of those ' far-off ancient days.'
