MARY ABBOTT (Pianoforte) The City of Birmingham Orchestra is unique in being the only organisation of its kind in this country receiving a subsidy from the rates of an .industrial city. It is a matter of civic pride that Birmingham, more than any other city in Great Britain, affords its citizens, including those least favourably circumstanced, frequent opportunities of enjoying music in its highest form, at little or no cost to themselves.
Rugby-well known for its great Public School
-has also been an important centre for electrical research and manufacture for over thirty years. A talk on some recent achievements, ranging from ship propulsion to the latest methods of recording and reproducing talking films, will be given by Mr. F. H. CLOUGH , C.B.E. Interest will be enhanced by incidental noises in the works at Rugby from which the talk is being relayed.
