THE C ity of Birming. ham Orchestra's 
Children's Concerts, of which four will be given during the coming season, were one of Dr. Adrian Boult 's most popular activities when he was in Birmingham. He believed that an audience could be built up for the future which, through these concerts, would be trained in the art of listening to fine music. The seats are very cheap, so that the concerts come within the reach of the poorest children. On these Saturday afternoons the Birmingham Town Hall is crowded with an eager audience ready to enjoy a real orchestral concert. Many of the children who have been attending the concerts for several seasons, show their familiarity with famous classical works by singing or whistling the tunes as they come along. The youthful audience is particularly quick to appreciate musical fun. So that the listeners may win full benefit from the concerts, each work is prefaced by a few explanatory remarks. This season the whole work of providing the explanations will fall to Mr. Harold Gray.
