Exploration at Wookey Hole

The caves of Cheddar, in Somerset, are among the wonders of the West of England, and thousands of tourists visit them every year.
Not many miles away, at Wookey Hole, there is another interesting series of caves, which are not only less well known, but are even partially unexplored.
There are six chambers. The river Axe flows through the first and second, appearing to issue, in the third, from the solid rock. In fact, it comes out of a submerged archway, giving the only access to a second series of three chambers.
The fourth and fifth of these can be reached when the river is low. In the sixth, and last, the actual source of the river is probably to be found, but more may be known at the end of tonight's broadcast.
At 10.30 listeners will be guided by a commentator through the first three caves to the entrance to the fourth. There a diver, Graham Balcombe , will enter the water and make his way to the fourth, fifth, and finally to the mysterious sixth chamber.
When he arrives there, at approximately 11.15, by means of a microphone in his helmet he will, it is hoped, be able to describe what he sees, so that listeners will actually share in his exploration of an unknown fraction of underground England.
