The Romans knew that a flickering image might bring on a fit in a susceptible person. In those days it was probably a rotating potter's-wheel, today it may be on a television set. Dr. Pallis describes how he became interested in this subject which is taking on a new importance as the circumstances of modem life subject us more and more to fast flicker.
