FIVE years ago Captain Ellam undertook an extensive tonr in Tibet, by permission of the Tibetan and Indian Governments, to study that peculiar phase of Tibetan Buddhism known as Lamaism. As a Buddhist himself, though of another school, he was recognized as one within the fold, and so was able to obtain an inside view of the mysteries of Lamaism, besides accomplishing much geographical, ethnological and anthropological research.
