This play depicts a dramatic episode in the days of Cavaliers and Roundheads. The time is early in the year 1645, while the issue of the struggle between Charles and Cromwell is still undecided, and the action of the play gives some illustrations of the plot and counter-plot inseparable with this stirring period.
