Before the days of School Boards, Domsie, as he was lovingly called behind his back, buried himself among the woods with the bairns of Drumtochty. He died a bachelor and seemed to give all his love to the children, and nearly all his money, too, helping lads to college. He declared to Drumsheugh, "The grass'll no grow on the road between the College an' the schule-hoose o Drumtochty till they lay me in the auld kirkyaird." The discovery of a "lad o' pairts" was counted a day in his life, and when the "Schule" knew that Geordie Hoo was marked for college they pelted him with fir cones in great gladness of heart. Dominie Jamieson was the type of schoolmaster that no boy or girl, who had sat at his feet, could ever cease to love and revere.
